The Surgery
Welcome to the shopforbrains.com Surgery! Before we go any further, there's one fact you should be aware of. Your warranty is the most valuable piece of documentation that comes with your system's original purchase. Please ensure that your brain doesn't still qualify for warranty repair BEFORE you open the case or you could void it.
OK, let's get "down" to it... Your problem isn't software related, and more than likely you're in a spot of trouble now. Unless you purchased your brain from us (we don't just service ones that Igor finds), and it's older than a year, chances are the warranty that came with it has long since gone the way of the Dodo. If it's a hard drive related problem, then chances are you're getting an error message that states something to the effect: "unable to start Windows®, incorrect system disk". This is a serious issue, but luckily for you, help is only a phone call away (email's pretty useless unless you have access to another brain). So let's talk about what's involved in cracking your brain's case.
There are two places we can perform surgery like this... yours or ours. If you KNOW what the problem is (as in the example of the hard drive error noted above), then replacement of the defective unit is pretty simple. In the case of a hard drive failure, though, there's an additional step you're going to have to consider. Unless you've performed a very recent back-up, then the files and data you've been working on may as well be on the moon, or Pluto, because you're stuck... Fortunately data recovery is not beyond the skills of one of our surgical experts. In ninety percent of cases, we are able to not only provide you with a replacement drive, but successfully restore the data from your damaged one to the new drive.
So whose equipment do we service? It would be easier to list the manufacturers we DON'T provide service for (can't think of any) than the ones we do, but it looks far more impressive to list the latter, so here goes (please note that shopforbrains.com respects the Trademark and Registration rights of every manufacturer listed here but to save space and avoid carple-tunnel syndrome, we've decided NOT to include the actual "®" and "" marks and would ask that the reader consider that they are in fact there in spirit):

Watch this area for a list of component prices. We'll post it as soon as Igor's completed it. As is the case with service inventory we carry, it wouldn't be a good idea to "build" a system using these prices. Chances are that Igor can source the components necessary to put together a fairly decent brain for somewhat less than what you'd put one together for here. Please note that some component's prices fluctuate drastically (as is the case with RAM) due to market conditions.
